Keeping it indie

There's nothing like discovering a unique cool store. Oxford has an abundance of shopping experiences from high street to designer to vintage. We recently took a stroll around Oxford to see what Christmas shopping we could do away from the hustle and bustle.

Tucked in the centre of Summertown, this quirky and colourful shop has won high praise as one of the best boutiques outside of London. Bursting with handpicked fashion and homewares from indie designers and run by a knowledgeable and passionate team.

On the popular hipster Cowley Road, you'll find a music lover's delight. Packed full on indie music from the Oxford music scene, plus lots of known and lesser known releases to suit all music loves. They also do a nice coffee if you need a break from browsing and chill in the record store for a while.

The perfect place to discover fashion from decades past. This vintage shop has lots of retro goodies. Unlikes some rummage based shops, this place is easy to manage with everything beautifully laid out. Perhaps it's time to don a bow tie, or a feather?

Since lockdown, so many of us have taken up new hobbies and an appreciation for sustainability as well as domesticity. Objects Of Use is the perfect place to shop for practicality. From polish to brushes to tools, it won't be difficult to find something useful.

Rainbow + Spoon

Ethically sourced and brightly coloured fashion made using traditional techniques from all around the globe. Located conveniently just by the train station, this quirky store has lots of gift inspirations and sells the best silk pyjamas.

A shop for artists, writers and old souls. Scriptum houses some of the finest stationery, office accessories and leather-bound books sourced from Britain and Italy. They also offer an engraving service if you want to have an extra special touch this Christmas.
